I seriously believe that the strongest superpower we can cultivate as humans is control over our own minds. The ability to shift your own energy is one of the most underrated life skills—it affects everything: connection, growth, relationships, career, communication, and beyond.
Recently, someone called me out at work for explaining all the ways I trick myself into doing things—and actually enjoying them. And they’re right. The concept of “fake it til’ you make it” is real.
The truth? I’m naturally lazy. I wish I wasn’t, but I am. My lazy brain is so strong, and I’ve had to work just as hard to strengthen my “go do things because you’ll appreciate it later” brain. And honestly? It’s still a work in progress.
Over time, I’ve picked up little ways to hack my own motivation—tools I use to get myself to do the hard, annoying, or uncomfortable things now, knowing that my future self will be grateful.
Whether it’s reminding myself how lucky I am to even have “work problems” (because that means I have a job), or using a single deep breath to reset my body when I feel physically drained—I constantly practice shifting my mindset.
So, here’s how you can mind fuck yourself into having a good day with just two simple steps:

Shift from “I have to” → “I get to.”
Every time you catch yourself thinking “Ugh, I have to do this,” flip it to “I GET to do this.”
You get to work out—because you have a body that moves.
You get to deal with work stress—because it means you have a job.
You get to do laundry—because it means you have clothes to wear.
And if you have the time to do these mundane tasks, it also means you’re not in the hospital with a loved one. You’re not dealing with an emergency. In theory, everything is okay. That alone is a privilege.
Life’s mundane tasks are proof that you’re alive and doing well. Recognizing that? It changes everything.
2. Breathe and Reset.
This might sound a little woo woo, but trust me—try it.
Take a deep inhale.
Hold it for a moment.
Exhale completely.
This isn’t just a breath—it’s a full reset. A signal to yourself that whatever just happened is over.
If you’re deep in a hard workout and need to push through—this breath is your fresh start.
If you’re in a tense situation and need to pause before reacting—this breath gives you space to reset and respond with clarity.
It’s a simple trick, but it’s powerful. Every breath is a chance to start over.
And with that—go have a fucking good day. You deserve it.
